When my kids became teenagers I noticed how different their social lives were from mine in the 80s. In my small town we were lucky to not only have so much more freedom than kids these days, but a central meeting spot (Pizza King) where we could hang out totally unsupervised because it was run solely by high school students on the weekends. Looking back on that time as an adult I realized what a unique situation it was (with the 'inmates running the asylum'!) and it started to bring back memories of the good times (and also some of the trouble we got into) back then. Seeing my high school years in a whole new light, and wanting to celebrate my experience, was the first spark that then ignited the rest of the story.
