J.D. Robertson I am a seat-of-my-pants kind of writer. Right now, I am playing with a story about a teenage girl in the 1970s who falls in love with a small-time drug dealer. I am really not sure where it's going to go, but I think it will fall into a literary suspense type of story.
J.D. Robertson I still keep writing every day, at the same time (first thing in the morning with coffee and my dog), but I forgive myself if I only get a few sentences down. I've used writing prompts from sites like The Narrative Arc as well, which I found hugely helpful. I've even been known to write poetry when I am desperate for word spew.
J.D. Robertson I just love challenging myself to give my readers very specific feelings and sensations. Description, to me, should be concise and surprising. It's when I can achieve that, I feel I am doing what I should be doing.
J.D. Robertson Summer is over, but fall is here and I am recovering from hip replacement surgery, so reading is a fantastic recovery activity! Since being laid up I've read:
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely fine by Gail Honeyman
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid (LOVE Taylor!)
The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave

On my reading list:
In the Attic by Garry Rodgers
The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
