Travis Puryear My writer's block did not come as traditional writer's block does. As a matter of fact, I can't remember ever having traditional writer's block. Writing comes very natural to me. What I did have to overcome with Friendly Fire is reliving all of the feelings of betrayal, inadequacy, loneliness, and reliving almost dying twice. It took seeing a psychologist to help deal with my PTSD and depression and an organization called Outdoors For Our Heroes to help me realize that I am worthy of the benefits that I receive and that I am no less of an injured veteran than those who were injured in wartime. OFOH gave me a chance to talk with other disabled veterans while hunting and fishing in the outdoors. To learn more about this great organization visit: www.outdoorsforourheroes.org
Travis Puryear Being able to communicate to others my story and the things that God has laid on my heart to share. Communication is crucial in this world and it is something that many people take for granted today!
Travis Puryear Research marketing and promoting your book BEFORE you publish it. There are several things that you can do ahead of time to help your book get a head start. Of course, I didn't learn this until after publishing Friendly Fire.
Travis Puryear Currently I am learning how to successfully market and promote books. This process was something that I did not consider when writing my books. It is very challenging and can be pretty expensive. My recommendation for any new authors out there is to research effective book marketing strategies before publishing your book (whether through a publisher or self-published). One thing that I didn't realize is that publishers really don't do anything to promote your book. It all falls on you!
I do have a book in the pipeline though called "Would God Forsake America?" It is already written, but before I publish it, I want to get Friendly Fire out there far and wide because it is such an important story. It deserves all of my attention.
Travis Puryear My inspiration to write comes from God. I have always been good at writing and it has always come easy for me. I feel that writing is one of the gifts He has given me to communicate what He wants me to. I started small. I wrote 3 children's books (Pen name From: Us) about my golden retriever puppy Cain. This was to test the writing process and do a topic that was fun. Then I finished Friendly Fire. I have also written another book called "Would God Forsake America?" that will come out later in 2023.
Travis Puryear Friendly Fire: The Betrayal of One Soldier by the Government is my personal story. It is about everything that has happened to me since receiving the anthrax vaccine in the Army. I started the book back in 2016 when I felt that God wanted me to write a book about my story. It has been a long road, but the story really hasn't been told and it needed to be.
