Evan Clouse The sweat was pouring off of her forehead as she thrust herself up off of the pillow, her eyes anxiously darting around the forboding shadows fluttering throughout the bedroom. As she gently laid her head back upon her pillow, she felt the blade of a knife penetrate her throat and she realized that she had not been dreaming.
Evan Clouse Well, so far I haven't experienced it, but I'm sure that I will. Typically, when I'm about to start a new chapter, I will dream a great deal of it the night before so it just flows out the next day. On the few days where I'm actively going to the well, I tell myself, "Just write something". I will then argue with myself and say that I have nothing to say. After a few minutes of this pettiness, the first voice wins out and I just start typing. It's kinda like struggling to open a champagne bottle, but once you hear that "pop" it just comes flowing out.
Evan Clouse Being able to say anything that I want to. To have the freedom to comment on current events within the construct of a well-developed story and through a well-developed set of characters. When I am writing and able to get some of my frustrations out about the current state of our society, I'm in my happy place.
Evan Clouse I'm sorry, but I don't know that I know ebough yet to give ay advice. Maybe to write because you love it and if your work finds success and admiration then it's a bonus.
Evan Clouse Well, I'm chuckling right now as I'm typing this. I am a brand new author who has no idea what he is doig inthe world of book promotion, so that is what I'm working on. I'm just trying to navigate this ocean of other incredible works and have readers find mine as well. I just finished writing the third part of the "Hanging Chads" series two weeks ago, so I'm not writing at the moment, but the dreams are starting again....
Evan Clouse Music and musical performances are very important to me and I draw inspiration from particular songs. Each chapter in the book is a song title and there are numerous other song references (49 to be exact). I love how Quentin Tarantino incorporates music to highlight the dialogue or action in a particular scene ad wondered if I could accomplish that through prose as well. Some may find it gimmicky, but I find it to be inspirational. Plus, if the reader listens to the songs as they are referenced there are frequently "easter eggs" in the lyrics which can give the reader increased insight into the character's mood or motivation.
Evan Clouse Actually, I had a vivid dream about a copper-haired, green-eyed female serial killer. The dream was so vivid, that I spent months developing her as a character complete with her upbrininging, family, friends and motivation to do the dastardly thigs that she does. I incorporated into her character a deep disdain for those in our society who bully, oppress, terrorize and abuse others, including particular religous and political ideologies. After nine months of thinking about her, I decided it was time to give birth to her as it were. Ten weeks later the book was finished and Maddy was born. I'll leave it up to the reader as to whether her presence in the world is a good thing or not.
