H.M. DuVal I move on to a different scene, or I go do something else for a while. Let the ideas percolate in the back of my mind. It helps to have a solid idea of who my characters are; then I can ask myself "How would so-and-so react to this situation and why? What in their backstory tells me that information?" I have backstories about minor characters that might never come to a reader's attention, but that's one of the things that gives my stories depth and realism.
H.M. DuVal Taking a piece of your soul, placing it in print, and making yourself humble and vulnerable enough to share it with others.
H.M. DuVal Just write. Not for someone else's approval or with the hope of being published. Just tell the story that is on your heart to the best of your ability. And expect that it won't be perfect, because it won't be. But you keep trying and keep working at it, and you'll get better and better at delivering a tale that will reach into the chest of anyone who reads it.

Keep your perspective. Remember why you wanted to write in the first place, and whenever you start worrying about reviews and sales and imposter syndrome, remind yourself that you write for the stories.
H.M. DuVal The sequel to Unnatural!
H.M. DuVal I find so much profound beauty in the world around me. In each of our journeys and each seemingly unremarkable day that culminates into a rich lifetime. It's a passion of mine to use fiction writing to bring our attention back to the fantastical elements that surround us on a daily basis - finding the "magic in the mundane." And I hope that by reading my works you will be transformed inside yourself, then view the world around you with completely different eyes.
H.M. DuVal Unnatural has been a huge background project for a number of years for me. A riveting dream in high school started the story in my mind, though it took a couple decades for me to mature enough to tell the story well. I hope you enjoy what it has evolved into!
