Amanda Denney Since we're only a few days past Sweepings of the Street's release day, I'm still putting all my energy into that for now. But after? I want to go back to working on a story I started about six years ago. The premise is that if a child breaks a mirror, they are sucked through the mirror into the magical Hall of Mirrors and forced to become the reflection of whoever steps in front of a mirror. A girl in the real world realizes that the curse exists and that it's her job to figure out how to break it.
Amanda Denney Being able to create characters out of literally nothing, to me, is like magic. We are creating stories that have never been told before, not the way we're telling them. I think that's amazing.
Amanda Denney I got the idea for Sweepings of the Street while in an English class, where we were studying Romantic poetry. I read two poems by William Blake called "The Chimney Sweeper," as well as Blake's "London" and William Wordsworth's "London, 1802." The story I found in those poems is fictional, but elements of it probably happened to thousands of families during the British Industrial Revolution.
