I've had terrible writer's block at different points in my life. I'm not sure there's an easy way to deal with it. But in my experience, sitting down at the same time and place every day is important. You may stare at the computer for an hour, stare out the window, but just sit for the allotted time -- and it can be 15 minutes if that's all you can spare. Don't be hard on yourself, just try to be there, try to be listening, when the words and images do start flowing again.

Keep writing! Don't give up, even when it seems like no one will ever read your work. Keep reading! You learn so much from reading books of writers you admire.
I try to write every day...it might be a sentence, it might be a chapter, but it's important to "tune your instrument" every day. Just like playing a piano, your fingers get rusty if you don't practice.

I'm working on another YA that deals with a group of kids dealing with semi-homelessness, something I've become very aware of in the last few years in my home state of Kentucky.

I've always been a big listener and observer. Story ideas pop up everywhere around me, I just have to be ready. I keep a journal and try to write things down as they happen. I'll come back to an idea years later if it's not something that works right away.

I was inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest, one of my favorite plays. I've long wanted to do a modern reimagining of the story...and it's finally going to be out there in the world!
