Susan L. Marshall Since I was a child, I have always wanted to visit Enid Blyton's amazing worlds in "The Folk of the Faraway Tree" series. If I was to visit any of the lands on top of the tree, I would be so excited, I would make sure I had lots of fun and got to know the characters in that world :)
Susan L. Marshall In winter in Melbourne, 2024, I spent times outdoors, attuning myself to the living energies of the season. It was during this time that the concept of the 'wild soul' flourished and led to some rich poetry writing. My new publication: "Wild Soul: Contemporary Classical Winter Poetry" will be available in January, 2025.
Susan L. Marshall There are many reasons why I love to write. One of my most favourite experiences when writing is my immersion in the world I am exploring. Stories have a special way of taking you places ...
Susan L. Marshall If I have writer's block then it means that I need to take a break from writing for a little while and let it sit. It also often means that I need to approach my writing from a different angle. I will often engage in a new playscape or seek inspiration from research or film, novels, etc to get me back on track again.
Susan L. Marshall The first thing to realise is that you can write :) That in itself, is the most liberating realisation :) As you begin to engage in a project, first and foremostly it is important to be true to your nature. It ensures that you are selecting the write genre and premise for your work. For example, I am a modern Romanticist and this led to the development of my Makeshift Girl series. By being true to your nature, you will find that you write with heart and soul and this produces much higher quality writing :) Best wishes to you on your journey :)
Susan L. Marshall One of the most wonderful ways that I get inspired is by immersing myself in my playscapes. These are interactive spaces, be them outside or inside, e.g. a mountain top, a visit to a local market, etc. Such spaces help me to germinate ideas for writing - I can even tap into character voices, etc. this way. This is something that I share with fans on my Story Playscapes pages on social media.
Susan L. Marshall I am currently working on a children's metaphysical fantasy publication, which I am enjoying immensely. I am also working on a metaphysical science fiction / romance called "Look Back," which has been very popular with our readers at Story Playscapes.
