Judith Sanders Great question. My favorite fictional book world is my own mind as I float into numerous worlds, meet fascinating characters, and learn about the unlimited landscapes and plots of those worlds. My hope then lies in translating those into my own plots. The worlds are mostly extraterrestrial visits to cultures and beings that are advanced yet share similar commitments to truth, beauty, and peace. I have also visited worlds within our world: my evolving story on Sinkholes explores what worlds might exist beyond our own; my interest in children's/teen's book has me visiting a world or beings who maintain our trees in a timeline that parallels the slow move of history in trees on earth (and the threats posed by humankind's "progress" to our oxygen generating flora).
Judith Sanders Taking breaks. Reading. Fun distractions. Maybe a glass of sherry.
Judith Sanders Freeing my mind to go anywhere it wants and chatting with readers about their reaction to characters and scenes of my books.
Judith Sanders Read, read, read and find a great editor (not one who just does spell check but will coach you in character arc, plot line lows and highs, and finds the pearls in your text).
Judith Sanders A young adult/adult novel of the coming of age for a young girl who is a misfit.
Judith Sanders By reading and finding stories in my mind or conversations with others. Then my novel has to be factually based, have a historical element, and that it holds my interest.
Judith Sanders Over a Thanksgiving meal with my nephew whose son was considering joining the military. See the preface of "In His Stead" for details.
