Nancy DeRosa I had such a nice summer and reading these wonderful books made the summer months that much better! I just finished “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides. If you’re into psychological thrillers this is the one for you. I could t put it down! I also really enjoyed “The Immortalists” by Chloe Benjamin. I don’t want to give anything away but this book really gets you thinking about how much one would want to know about their future. Also, I highly recommend “A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Bachman. A truly wonderful read!
Nancy DeRosa You must know me, I’m a big fan of “Paranormal, Caught on Camera”’ airing on the Travel Channel. Okay, just for you, here it goes....

The Dread of Night
by Nancy DeRosa

I felt it before I knew, heart hammering in my chest, I woke with a start, the clock by the far wall showing 3:06AM, a sound by my bedroom door, a shadow underneath, shifting slightly, a clicking sound, like a nail tapping, an ominous laugh, other worldly, my breath stops, I knew something was coming for me; my beloved glass bird suddenly sliding off the fireplace mantel, crashing to the ground, my watercolor painting popping off the wall, more broken glass beneath my feet, shoes, keys, pocketbook, never where I left them, always, weirdly, always somewhere else, yes, I knew a horrible entity was behind my door and it was here, now, for me.

I couldn’t blink, I couldn’t move as I watched the doorknob being turned, slow, agonizing, a dark figure standing beside my bed in an instant, huge, round yellow eyes staring, paralyzing me, it’s mouth opened, a horrible death like stench, it’s face mere inches from my face, it smiled, a huge black hole of a smile as it’s hideous mouth prepared to swallow me, make me a part of it’s evil, I knew this, and then, a sudden surge of strength, I wasn’t ready to die....
Nancy DeRosa Of course, like millions of others, I am enthralled with the fictional series; "Game of Thrones" By George R. R. Martin. I don't miss an episode of the adaptation of his books on the cable channel HBO. If I could travel into their fictional world I would want to become Jon Snow's most important confident and friend. I believe he has the purest intentions for the people and would be the best candidate to rule the seven kingdoms. Along with my council and input, we would be able to destroy the evil dead walkers advance on the seven kingdoms with the dragon glass that had recently been discovered. I would then become an important advisor to Jon Snow and with my guidance and friendship, peace, freedom, and prosperity would rule the land and we would all live happily every after. To make my fictional world perfect, Daenerys Targayren would bend the knee to Jon Snow and become the warden of the North and South. Daenery and I would form a bond and her dragons would become my BFF'S. If you looked up in the sky in my "Game of Thrones' fictional world, you would frequently find me soaring above on the dragons backs having the best time ever!!
Nancy DeRosa That's a great question and I really thought about it. Then it occurred to me that the mystery of my life is in front of me. What happens next? I have already learned a lot from the experiences in my past. The good, the bad, the successes, and failures, I know them all, they have already been revealed, no longer holding any secrets. So now I look forward to the next chapter. What will be in store for me? That's the mystery, I don't know the plot yet but I will try to make it as interesting as possible so stay tuned!!
Nancy DeRosa My favorite fictional couple is Rob Petrie and Mary Tyler Moore of the "Dick Van Dyke Show," which initially aired Oct 3, 1961 to June 1st, 1966. Although not characters from literature, I connected to the reruns of this show when I was young. The show was set in New Rochelle, in Westchester NY, where I was born and raised and I loved the comical interactions of Rob and Mary. Mary Tyler Moore was the first woman to change up the fashion landscape in 1960's television and wore Capri pants and flats on air to the initial shock of many. This show went on to win 15 Emmy's. Right from the start of her career, MTM epitomizes the modern woman and she developed that persona even further with the "Mary Tyler Moore Show," In the next decade she was a role model for many women in the 70's. She made us believe that we could follow her lead, and our dreams to be independent and career minded. MTM was a trail blazer, and we knew we too could have it all. Her grace and talent will be missed by so many of us.
Dick Van Dyke was multi talented and funny. His long career has given us so much in movies and TV. He could sing, dance, act, and make us all laugh with such ease. The chemistry between Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke on the "Dick Van Dyke Show," was tangible and pure magic!
Next, I will talk about my favorite characters in literature!
Nancy DeRosa I loved writing this trilogy because it celebrates love, friendship, family and great food! This concept is a part of my everyday life so it was easy to write about it. I love to cook, dine out and eat great food with family and friends so I had the idea to create fictional characters that centered around the family dinner table, restaurants, or a picnic at the park. Food became the prop as social interactions take place with my characters.
Nancy DeRosa Everything we experience in life inspires me. I am especially drawn to create characters that struggle to overcome different obstacles they are faced with. I feel we all struggle with life events at one time or another. It is a universal experience we can all relate to. Working through our problems and gaining control is inspiring to me.
Nancy DeRosa I am currently working on the final installment of the FOOD FOR THOUGHT; Trilogy, "Just Desserts." FOOD FOR THOUGHT; First Course was just released and book two; "Second Course" will be out next winter. I am also working on a children's series; THE NEIGHBORHOOD COLLECTION and a YA titled; NOT MY FAULT.
Nancy DeRosa My advice it to never give up! If you want to get published, if you want others to read your work it will happen! Learn the craft and write what you want to write about with your truth. Readers always know the difference. Just keep writing and learning and join a critique group to get a sense and direction of your story. It's also a good way to network with other writers and be in a supportive group I am always learning new things to improve on my work.
Nancy DeRosa For me the best thing about being a writer is my readers. When someone sits down to read one my books they become a part of my world, a part of what I've created and there is nothing better than sharing my stories with others. I am always so excited when I hear someone read and enjoyed one of my books. The joy of that never get's old!
Nancy DeRosa I take a break when I feel blocked. I don't force it as that can become stressful and counter productive. Sometimes just taking my dog for a short walk is enough for me to clear my mind and relax. After a short break more often than not that's when ideas flow and I get back to writing.
