Ellen Jo Ljung She proudly finished her manuscript and went to send it to the publisher. A power outage stole it from her before she could save it.
Ellen Jo Ljung I think I'd want to go to the world of Handmaid's Tale, which I read when Atwood first published it... not to live in that world but to try to understand how it evolved so I could come back and try to prevent that evolution in the world we all do live in.
Ellen Jo Ljung As a freshman at the University of Wisconsin, I met my husband on a Thursday at a mixer dance attended by over 1,000 people. The campus had over 35,000 people and he asked me out for Friday, then said he didn't want to get tied down. Neither did I! Yet we ran into each other at a picnic for new students with over 1,000 people on Saturday night... how likely? Then he asked me out for pizza on Sunday -- fine -- but he ended up standing behind me in line in the bookstore on Monday! What are the odds? He doesn't believe in fate, so I tell him he's my stalker. We defied statistics in continuing to meet, and we are still together 58 years later! How do you explain that?
Ellen Jo Ljung I've just finished Trust and am reading Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng. I absolutely love Lessons in Chemistry and so enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures, a book enhanced by my getting to meet the author and hear her speak. I'm currently waiting for The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Harlem Shuffle, and Ann Patchett's Tom Lake. I do love to intersperse good mysteries, especially those where the location becomes a character and/or the protagonist is female.
