J.K. Keane Hi Eli, good question and I wish I could say I chose the name with that in mind, but have to admit that I hadn't even realised it was an acronym for Missing in Action until someone pointed it out to me about a year ago. I looked for a short, easy to read and memorable name and somehow Mia just felt right.
J.K. Keane Join a writing group and try to get constructive feedback on your writing. My writing group forced me to read my stories out loud and it was a real eye-opener as I spotted problems I had not noticed before. It is lovely to be part of a group of like-minded people and have a safe place where you can share your writing (even a scrappy first draft). Accept that improving your craft will take a lot of time and dedication and will be a never-ending process. Keep editing your work. Try to find your own voice and keep writing, even when you start doubting yourself.
J.K. Keane I love walking in nature, preferably in old woods, but also enjoy long hikes in the beautiful Shropshire Hills, the area where I live in the UK. I can let my mind wander and often new ideas or the solution to a plot problem just appear. I might not be a very talkative walking companion at times as I am busy plotting a new story or thinking about a new story idea. My main problem is to stay focused on one story as other ideas keep popping up and diverting my attention.

I have started book 4 in the Mia the Kitten Adventure Series while also working my way through a final edit of Mia Fights back (book 2). When I need a break from Mia and her friends, I am outlining my first adult fiction book about a middle-aged vet who turns her back on her profession to save herself.

J.K. Keane I used to work as a vet in a busy small animal practice in the UK but loved writing short stories for my two granddaughters. They were (and still are) mad about cats and animals in general. They particularly enjoyed one story about a black kitten that moved house and struggled to make new friends.
I had chosen a black kitten quite deliberately as black cats are still often overlooked and find it harder to find forever homes. I love nature and particularly forests so it felt natural to write an adventure story that takes place mainly in the woods and involves cats and other forest animals. Once the first book was finished, our family went on many woodland adventures looking for the animal characters and I hope that children will do the same after they've finished reading.
