Bert S. Lechner I'll generally try to jump to a different project and make a little headway there while I'm struggling.

More often, though, I'll end up tabling the writing for the time being and go do something different to clear my head a bit.
Bert S. Lechner My current book was inspired by a piece of flash fiction I wrote for a Halloween competition. I liked the cryptid I created for it so much that I wanted to explore it in a longer story.
Bert S. Lechner 1) If you want to write, just write: even if it's just a sentence a day, getting that habit going will ultimately get you to your goal.

2) Don't let anyone discourage you from writing by citing pessimistic chances of success.
Bert S. Lechner My next story is book four in my series, 'The Roots Grow Into the Earth,' and it is a tale of a small town taking a stand against a mysterious, eldritch being that has plagued them for decades.
Bert S. Lechner I stared at the coil of rope resting on my chair.

It stared back, eyes hiding within every fiber goading me to see my plan to the end.
Bert S. Lechner Great question!

I've always been fascinated with horror in one way or another: When I was a kid and vhs stores were still a thing I'd go and sneak into the horror section just to look at all the video covers. When I started writing my own fiction in high school and university I gravitated towards fantasy and sci-fi short stories with horror elements.

I only got really, truly into horror in my late twenties. In a period where I was struggling with undiagnosed autism and the last throes of an abusive intimate relationship, the horror genre became a sanctuary for me, and my writing took the turn from horror adjaced to full on horror.

It was a difficult experience, but in the end it kind of feels like horror was, one way or another, going to be the inevitable genre I would write in, and I'm very happy to be here writing it!
