My most recent book "The Deans' Bible: Five Purdue Women and Their Quest for Equality" came from two chance encounters and a photograph I had seen for years of five women standing shoulder to shoulder. During the chance encounters, I heard that the women in the photo were deans of women/students and were affectionately called the "Deanie Weenies." Then I heard of the secret Bible they passed from dean to dean as a symbol of their profession and sisterhood, and I was hooked. As I began my research, I learned of all they accomplished for women students and faculty against great odds, for they worked in a male dominated administration. Here's the book trailer where I talk about my idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7wiS...

I look at my research notes or interview notes and the spark ignites. Or I look at what I have written the day before to ignite the next pages.

Write. Don't give up. It takes layer upon layer of writing and perseverance. Think smart.

Waiting for my next book topic to appear organically. It's waiting for me somewhere out there.

I adore being in complete control of the creativity, the crafting of the book, the ebb and flow of every sentence, paragraph, and chapter. The book is all mine. I love choosing the perfect word, the perfect pairing of words, and seeing them pirouette like ballerinas into paragraphs to lure the reader to think, sigh, and want more.

I don't have writer's block. When working on a deadline, a writer cannot afford to even think of such a cliched stigma associated with writing. You sit in the seat and begin writing. At first, the writing may not be something you keep, but eventually, the flow begins and good and worthy writing arrives.
