I just finished the Crimetown 13 "RFK Tapes" podcasts. Stuart-Pontier took a very odd, illogical turn at the end away from the persuasive body of evidence that Sirhan Sirhan did not act alone. I look forward to reading Shadow Play; I had always assumed the dominant narrative that Sirhan acted alone was the truth, but now I'm convinced that something else was afoot. Is your original NPR documentary available?
William Klaber Cynthia, Thanks. Yes the sudden turn by my supposed partner was shocking, and I don't really know the reason for it. It's very clear from many sources that 13 shots were fired, which means a second gun. If this is true, then the whole Sirhan as the crazed loner is false, and the police covered up the crime, destroying evidence and bullying witnesses. Please do read Shadow Play and I'd love to hear from you afterwards. If I had your e-mail address I think I could send you a copy of the original RFK Tapes. Regards, Bill

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
William Klaber some old guy sat me down for breakfast and told me this amazing story about a woman who lived along Basket Creek where I live, and who one day in 1855 cut her hair and changed clothes and went off to live her life as a man and got into all kinds of trouble. He handed me decades of research he had done and said he thought I was the one to write her story. How could I say no? I started to write Lucy's biography, but a year into it, I dumped the whole thing in the waste basket and began writing her memoir instead.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
William Klaber can't think of a thing. don't do it unless your really, really have to.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
William Klaber weed your garden. be ruthless. be lean. don't say in nine words what you can say in six. don't let modifiers steal the power from your words. is completely alone any more alone than alone? all adjectives are under suspicion. all adverbs are guilty until proven innocent.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
William Klaber the metaphor is wrong. writer's block suggests you have this wealth of really good stuff in your head but a blockage is keeping it from coming out. sorry. more likely you (or I) are just out of gas. how to fix it? put stuff back into your head. read. go for a walk. listen to Mozart. read.
be nice to someone. do push-ups. read.
