What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Michael Hodges I enjoy motivating myself to complete projects, and meet deadlines. Sometimes these deadlines are from my editor, other times they are self-imposed.

I work hard, so seeing my work in print, or translated, or having Hollywood producers contact me is rewarding. But in the end, the biggest reward is the work itself. There is nothing like writing a first draft.

Curious, The Invasive seems like a book, or audiobook in my case, that you have to listen to a couple times because I am still trying to wrap my head about some of it. Was it kind of written that way, like you find something new if you read/listen to it again?
Michael Hodges Hi Shannon,

Yes, I intentionally wrote multiple layers into The Invasive, so it could be enjoyed again. I also place easter eggs in my books. You will find things you didn't on the first read. A lot of things happen in that novel! And I'm pleased to say that the sequel, The Invasive: Remnants will be out soon.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Michael Hodges There's no quick fix. Writer's block can last for days...or years. Your best option is to continue to read great fiction and non-fiction until you get past it. Also, it's important to have a writing space you feel comfortable in.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Michael Hodges Hiking in Montana.

How do you get inspired to write?
Michael Hodges I try to write everyday. But it's the truly unique concepts and the character's emotions that get me into what I'm doing.

What are you currently working on?
Michael Hodges I'm currently working on THE INVASIVE: REMNANTS . It's the sequel to THE INVASIVE, and very fun.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Michael Hodges Use short story markets to hone your craft. When you start getting accepted by semi-pro and pro magazines/anthologies, it's time to unleash your novel.
