Rob Donnelly I’ve been hanging around with my long dead ancestors seeing if we can conjure up the complexities of convict Van Diemen’s Land and gold rush Victoria. I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops.
Rob Donnelly Out of Order is a memoir. The book has grown from my memories of the 1990s when I was spending my time in contemplative monasteries. The life and my experience of leaving the monastery and the catholic priesthood was a story waiting for the right time to be told. It took time for the right time to arrive.
Rob Donnelly The best thing about being a writer is the moment when a word or a few words land on the page buzzing with life. I love finding those words that best connect with a reader and, in some way, resonate with his or her own experience. And I love reading. I love being conquered, even to tears, by the power of another writer’s prose.
Rob Donnelly I’m inspired by the people I meet, the complexities of life, nature, and the brilliant achievements of fellow writers. I’m inspired to write whenever I’m deeply moved with a sense of delight or sorrow or outrage or joy. Writing is my way of holding and exploring those moments. Its the way I savour what it means to be alive.
Rob Donnelly My advice is simple. If you are a writer then write. Whatever lands on the page might call for further work and that’s ok. Enjoy exploring what you can do with words. Give yourself permission to tell the stories you most deeply want to tell.
