Poetry is pure joy to me. The process is one of continual discovery, aesthetic as well as technical. My work is focused on the particularity that reveals the essence of the whole. Quite often, what I think I'm looking for is not what I find. I love this work and am renewed and inspired by it.

Walk. Speak your words aloud until you find your own natural rhythm. Love the hard work. If it makes you anxious, sad, tormented, do something else. If you get stuck, sit down and put a word on the page or the screen. Take a word from anywhere. Then put down another one. After a while there will be enough to work with.

Right now I am preparing a collection of new pieces and poetry selected from previous works. It is like a visual artist's retrospective. It looks at the trajectory of work over time and suggests where new work is leading. My editor has been suggesting this for several years.
