Essentially, the mind can come up with many ideas, and often we dismiss them or forget about them even if they are funny, or apt. But how often might these ideas form the basis for a book or a film? I've also been a cartoonist, part time, for many years and the same applies - so inspiraiton can come from every day occurances provided we file them in our minds.

Even for a part time writer, I think it's the fact that you get to 'make it up as you go along'. You're the boss. In a normal work place/profession, so much of what we undertake might be governed by daft rules or procesess that we can't control - write a novel and you have essential freedom.

Try to give yourself a goal for your project and a reasonable time frame - say two years to write a book. Then work out how much time per week you'd need.

Exercise is a great cure, especially if you clear your mind of clutter first.
