Mark McNease I'd head to Elizabethan England for a conversation with Elizabeth I, a personal idol and subject of much historical fiction I've read.
Mark McNease The fact that I did not know I was adopted until I was 17. It involved memories that had been effectively erased because they were starved of validity. I found my birth family (my blood sister was raised as my cousin), and somewhere in there is a mystery - or at least the makings of a great fictional one.
Mark McNease Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi from Robert Tanenbaum's series. I don't know if he's still writing them (he may be deceased!) but they make a great team and I love their daughter, too. Thanks for asking!
Mark McNease Keep writing. Sometimes step away for a day or two, but always just keep doing it, and know it will pass.
Mark McNease All the people I get to meet in my imagination. Writing is a magical experience for me. Hard work, but magical.
Mark McNease Write, and let your writing be your definition of yourself as a writer. A dancer dances, a writer writes. Listen to your own voice. It can be daunting and disheartening, but ignore the competition, and always do your best. Writing is rewriting.
Mark McNease I'll be releasing 'Last Room at the Cliff's Edge: A Detective Linda Mystery' within a couple weeks, late September at this point. I've started work on two new books/series, one a first-person narrative with a gay character named Marshall James, and one a mainstream series with a woman named Maggie Dahl.
Mark McNease Consistency and persistency. I've been writing since I was a child. It's something I'm compelled to do.
Mark McNease I created Detective Linda as part of the Kyle Callahan Mysteries series. She became best friends a partner-in-crime-solving, and she pretty much insisted on her own series! I went on a trip to Maine, and the idea for 'Last Room at the Cliff's Edge' was born.
