Nadine Doolittle I'm reading a lot of history fiction right now, which is a new area for me. Warrior of Rome by Harry Sidebottom (I bet he can't get on Facebook either with his name anymore that I can!), The Evening of the World by Allan Massie and Golden Lion by Wilbur Smith.

At the moment, I'm reading Flood by Stephen Baxter and loving it.
Nadine Doolittle Read above your writing level. Push the boundaries of your reading and it'll strengthen your writing. Write a little every day. Keeping a journal is a good way to start. Write to get to know yourself first and then write to say something to others. But most of all, read up--not down.
Nadine Doolittle Writing challenges my opinions about people and why they do what they do. Writing forces me to walk a mile in another man's shoes. It challenges every faculty I have. It's never boring.
Nadine Doolittle I've only had it once. I tried just about everything. In the end, I took the advice of a songwriter who said just write one sentence a day. I did that until I got through the block. I now believe that writer's block signals a transition phase of moving from writing for pleasure to writing for purpose. It's healthy so don't worry but take your time.
Nadine Doolittle A romance novel under my pseudonym. Also the fourth novel in the Gatineau Hills Mystery series tentatively called "Autumn Trees."
Nadine Doolittle Almost always it is a character that inspires me first. I "follow" that person around in my head for a year or more and if he or she is still interesting, I'll write the story.
Nadine Doolittle Honestly? I was lying on a dock on a lake in October and I had an image of a young man walking ahead of me through a forest. I "knew" he was an artist. He was my initial spark for The River Bride
