Chloe Banks Learning how to look after a baby! When I do have time to write I'm editing some short stories and tentatively looking at a new novel I started a few months ago.
Chloe Banks Write. Anyone can put words on paper in an order that can be understood. Writer's block is just a name for when those words aren't the ones you want! No matter. Write rubbish until you can write well again and you may find something salvageable anyway.
Chloe Banks Read widely; write narrowly. By that I mean don't worry about reading in "your" genre, just read anything good. Start off by playing around with fiction of different lengths and styles when writing by all means, but narrow it down when you can to a genre/style/length you love and work hard on honing that. Still play with the other styles if you want, but become a master of one. Don't think that anything can replace hard work. Don't rely on getting a lucky break or finding a short cut.
Chloe Banks Working for yourself! That and the (rare) satisfaction of finding a way to express something you wanted to say perfectly. It might be a sentence nobody else notices but you know it's there all the same.
