Clodagh Murphy Just write as much as you can, make the time to write and find your own voice. Write the kind of book you would love to read.

I would also advise writers to connect with other writers, whether in real life or on the internet. Being part of a community of writers can be incredibly supportive and encouraging.
Clodagh Murphy Inspiration comes from all over - it could be a news story, an article in a magazine, anecdotes from friends, overheard snippets of conversation. It starts with being curious about people, I suppose - what makes them tick, how circumstances and events affect their lives and how they deal with that.

I love writing comedy, so if I see the potential for humour in a situation, it really appeals to me as an idea for a book.
Clodagh Murphy I find a change of location can really help - going out to write at a café, or in a hotel room, or even just moving the laptop to another location. Just doing something else for a while can be useful too - something physical or mechanical where your mind is free to roam, like going for a walk. Personally, I find doing jigsaws great for thinking through thorny plot problems.
Clodagh Murphy I'm working on a new book set in Dingle, featuring another member of the McBride family from A Merry Irish Christmas. It will be out in March 2026.
