I'm also an illustrator and when I'm out of ideas I feel the worst thing you can do is force it. So instead I just go with it and draw how I feel, I feel like this is a good way for me to check in with my thoughts and figure out where my brain wants to go and what sort of story it might want to tell.

I feel like I get inspired to write by an exciting "what if" question. With Olive and Beatrix it started with asking myself, "what if you had a sister who was a witch? How would that shape who you are?" From that came Olive's personality, a creative problem solver with a love of science who is far more patient than her magic-making finger-snapping sister.
