Hello, Ann! Thank you for reading my book and taking the time to write a review; I appreciate it so much. And I really like the points you made. My favorite kinds of stories are ones where the characters grow and learn something about themselves that absolutely has to change in order for them to be happy in life. In Mary and the Captain Caroline tiptoed right up to the line of doing that, but--as you said--she didn't deal with any consequences of her behavior. I did write a sequel that focuses on Robert and Mary's wedding, and the conclusion of Caroline's story. I haven't published it because I'm not entirely happy with the Caroline part of the story, and I have some plot points that need to be resolved. But you've reminded me that I need to get back to work and get that book finished! Thanks again for your message, Ann. All my best to you!

Thanks for your message, Jinna. I'm so glad you liked Mary and the Captain! I'm working on the sequel right now. You're right; there are a lot of things to cover, like Mary's wedding and honeymoon, Daniel's new life with his grandfather, and, of course, Caroline's budding attraction to Mr. Penrose. I'll post updates on my progress here on Goodreads, especially as I get closer to my publication date. Thanks again for your kind words about Mary and the Captain. All the best to you! Nancy

Mary and the Captain was born from one single idea. I had a scene in my mind of a Regency-era soldier trying to get home for Christmas, who, instead, is forced to spend Christmas Eve night at an inn. Originally, I thought that scene might develop into a short Christmas story, but I was wrong! It's funny how the right combination of characters, settings and circumstances have a way of taking over a story! As the story developed, my soldier met someone at the inn with no family or home of his own. Now my soldier is faced with a dilemma: follow his own heart and continue on his journey home to see his family on Christmas Day; or right an injustice and bring the joy of Christmas to someone less fortunate. Soon, that little short story I originally envisioned grew into 400+ pages and a book I thoroughly enjoyed writing.
