Writer's block hasn't been a problem so far. I have lots of stories lying in a dusty folder, stories partially written which I haven't had time to finish and ideas jostling for attention which may or may not ever come to anything. I'm a great believer in giving projects time and space to develop. If something isn't coming together, then put it aside for a while. The more you try to force your creativity, the less likely you'll be happy with the results.

Despite having sold thousands of 'Wee MacNessie' books, I am always thrilled when someone takes the time to tell me how much the stories have been appreciated. Due to the many bilingual versions I have produced, 'Wee MacNessie' is sent to people all over the world. I think I may be a little jealous that my character is better travelled than I am!

Be prepared to lay your work aside for a while before returning to assess it. Keep asking yourself, do I need all these words or could I cut chunks out without affecting the quality of the story?

I have to laugh at this question as I have several unfinished stories calling out to be finished and new ideas jabbing at me trying to get my attention. Owning my own publishing company and being responsible for all the marketing of my books, I can't spend nearly as much time writing as I would like.

There are many triggers for stories. Yesterday I was jotting down ideas for a children's story based on an amazing lady I have known for years. I don't know yet if those ideas will evolve into a finished book, but I love it when pictures of a potential character start popping into my head.

The book I'm working on at the moment is the fourth story in my 'Wee MacNessie' series. I have lived near Loch Ness for a large part of my life so the Loch Ness Monster is in my blood.
