Fay Faron As it says in Chapter 1: "But I didn't wanna be a Creative Writer. I wanted to be a creative Live-er." I worked and traveled my way around the U.S. and Europe for 2 and 1/2 years and never wrote any of it down, aside from letters home in which I left out the good parts. In fact, I had to wait for my parents to die before I could write the real book.
Fay Faron Things come to me in the night. I get up, scribble away - type, actually - and peak by 10 a.m. Then I have the rest of the day to do stuff that doesn't require as much brain power.
Fay Faron Creating advertising for my current book, "Journey of an EX-Teetotaling Virgin." THINKING about writing about my days as a gumshoe at The Rat Dog Dick Detective Agency in San Francisco, but not sure I want to dredge up the scoundrels who populated that time of my life. (Oh, wait, I am sure. I DON'T want to do that. That's why God invented aliases. But then, you KNOW who you are!)
Fay Faron Keep a journal and every letter you ever wrote or anyone who wrote you. Those tiniest details, like how much something cost or what went wrong on the way to what went right provide the authenticity.
Fay Faron You can get away with doing kooky things. (Like taking a job driving a buggy carriage in the French Quarter.
Fay Faron I never have it because I don't sit down to write until it is already spilling out of me. If it isn't, I am still in the thinking stage. Meaning, quite possibly, the bicycling stage.
