Melanie L. Bennett Thanks for the question. First let me say that writing a book has never been a dream of mine like it is for so many people. So it's not like I was looking for something to fulfill that dream most have. But with the encouragement of so many who loved my "Reagan stories" I decided to start keeping a journal on, yes, my personal experiences. When people found out I was keeping the journal they wanted to read it and that began the process of my writing my book.
Melanie L. Bennett Thanks for the question, Carol. I am one of these people who will put my whole heart into a project. It's like I live, eat and breath the project. Once my journal was complete and I had lost one of my part-time jobs, therefore giving me time to complete my book, I dove into it whole heartily! I spent every waking moment I could pressing forward. I would go to bed late, wake up early, do research on my phone, etc. That is a good thing, you say? Well, to a degree. Melanie L. Bennett I didn't have issues with this. I had a hard time deciding what to exclude in my book. But at times when I got burned out or discouraged I would turn to my friends for support and do research online for success stories.
Melanie L. Bennett Oh my, the sense of accomplishment! Such satisfaction in getting the project done! Also, when others contact me to tell me their attitude and understand of special needs kids, their families and caregivers have change, and they are a better person for reading my book, that is very satisfying.
Melanie L. Bennett My advice is far more than I can type in this answer. But here goes....First just start, somewhere. Have some type of plan, even if you have to change it regularly. Set goals. Have someone to answer to, weekly, someone who will encourage you along the way. At times just put it down with a goal to pick it back up in a certain length of time.
That's the short of it. But there is soooo much more than just that. Good luck!
Melanie L. Bennett I'm not. I have had many people as for a sequel, but I can't even go there in my mind, yet.
Melanie L. Bennett I fought this for a long time. But there was something about beginning that kept me going. I lived, ate and drank this book for sometime. Just getting started was hard.
Melanie L. Bennett I understand most people have a desire to write a book sometime in their lifetime. Not me. However, I had a story to tell. One that everyone wanted me to update them on whenever they saw me. So the journal began....
