Hey, Jeannine, I'm glad you liked BBB. Thanks for the question.
I've always been a Madonna fan, but the idea of doing the book came from the publishers, Carlton. They wanted to put out a Madge biography that concentrated on her as an artist/musician rather than as a celebrity, and needed a writer to do the text. Someone introduced me to them and the next thing I knew, I was up to my neck in Madonna every day (in a manner of speaking) for the next three months.
I don't know if you've actually seen the book, but it looks beautiful, so I'm proud to have my name on it.
Do you mind if I use the term "Bay City Roller condition"?

I'm not working on any books at the moment, just music journalism.

Read constantly, and keep a daily diary, which gets you into the habit of writing every day.

I've kept a diary since I was nine, so I've always written. The best thing about doing it professionally is being able to express myself in print. There's nothing better.

Oh my God - a question. I wasn't expecting this. The answer, sadly, is no; I never knew how hard it was to make a novel believable until I started writing one. It's completely different from writing a memoir or biography. My editor at the time said, when I showed her my draft, "This isn't a novel, it's the bare bones of one." Sigh.

So far, I haven't had it. Both my books were written with deadlines hanging over me, so I doggedly ploughed through. The only time I've encountered something like writer's block was when I tried to do a novel. After the first 5000 words, I couldn't go any further, though that was probably because I couldn't work up enough interest in my characters to continue.
