Kyle Andrews I'm currently working on my six-part Freedom/Hate series. I have the books written already, so now I'm just getting them polished and ready to go.

I have another book to edit and publish at some point, but I haven't found the time yet. So I will be editing for the foreseeable future.
Kyle Andrews Just work on building the writing part of your brain. Write fan fiction for TV shows and try to capture the voices of the familiar characters. Or just write a simple conversation between two people and see where it goes. Great characters will tell you their story once you get to know them. When you're starting, focus on them. A good character exists beyond the scope of the one story that you're telling about their lives. Understanding how they talk to their best friend or sibling over coffee can go a long way in figuring out how they will react to finding a dead body, or what type of person they would fall in love with.
Kyle Andrews The best thing about being a writer is having characters surprise me. There are times when something happens, changing the story entirely, and I never saw it coming. Or a random comment by a character can become important down the line without my ever planning it.
Getting to know the characters is always fun, but having them surprise me and take on a life of their own is cool.
Kyle Andrews The fun answer that I give people is "By banging my head against a wall", but the truth is that writer's block is usually just about too much clutter in my head. The best way for me to sort it all out and move past it is to just sit in a quiet room and let my brain run itself out for a while. Then I start writing, whether or not I feel ready. If it's bad, I can edit later. I just need to get past that hump.
