Erica Miner The first novel in my 'opera mystery' series is based on a true mystery that occurred at my workplace. Since that place is a very famous venue, I can't reveal the details. But trust me, the situation was a true inspiration and helped set up the protagonist and her involvement in the mystery. Fun!
Erica Miner I have been in communication with the opera company who is interested in my next Opera Mystery sequel: San Diego Opera. We have a history together, and they are psyched about having the next sequel take place there. As my closest friend in the company confided in me: 'I know where some dead bodies are buried.' That sounds promising! ;-)
Erica Miner Write. Write every day. Even if it's just entries in your journal. Writing on a regular basis is the best way to: improve your writing; get ideas for your books, whether fiction or non-fiction; and get those thoughts besieging your mind out of your head and onto the page.
Erica Miner A young, down-and-out violinist who wishes for her circumstances to improve meets a philanthropist who offers to help her out. But she is horrified when the philanthropist morphs into the Devil and informs her that she has made a deal to help him take over the world.
Erica Miner Sometimes ideas just come to me and I feel fired up to write them. Other times people give me ideas: like when one of my readers of 'Murder in the Pit' asked if I would write a sequel and suggested at which opera company to set the story. Most often, I just draw on my own experiences, since people have often told me I have had a fascinating life. Well, they say to write what you know, after all.
Erica Miner I discovered when I was placed in an after school program for Creative Writing in grade school that I just loved the whole process of being a writer: creating characters and plot lines and weaving them together to tell stories. I discovered that I loved telling stories. For me that's the best thing about being a writer!
Erica Miner James Ziskin's 'Turn to Stone' takes place in Florence, Italy, which is one of my most beloved cities in the world. I've been there many times, and each time I fall more in love with it. If I could go back, after the pandemic, I would visit all my old haunts; especially the Duomo, Baptistery, Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi and Pitti galleries.
Erica Miner It's #3 in my Opera Mystery series. After the first two, MURDER IN THE PIT (Metropolitan Opera) and DEATH BY OPERA (Santa Fe Opera), a prominent staff member of the San Francisco Opera suggested I set the next sequel at that prestigious company. Since I had a history with the company and the city, it inspired me to start writing!
