Not sure I've ever had it. I have been stuck finding an interesting way of handling a scene - but a good walk usually fixes the problem.
However, I also make a living from painting and the music, so only write when I feel like it - which I'm sure makes a huge difference.

Immersing yourself in other times, other places, and other lives. It also beats stacking shelves.

'Be incredibly lucky' is the glib answer for those wanting to be a huge success.
For those like myself, I'm not sure there is any sure-fire advice. For every person who enjoys your work, there will be another who doesn't - so probably the best advice is to simply write the kind of book you'd most like to read yourself - and at least you will have one satisfied customer.
One benchmark I employ is to rework anything that has me skimming over it. No matter how many times you've read something, if it doesn't still hold your interest sufficiently to read it again properly, then it still needs work.

Hmmm ... I should read all the questions before answering any. I already answered this in the one about 'the most recent book'.

By walking, mostly. Walking is the greatest invention in the world. Not only does it get you places, but it gets you there with a head full of good ideas.

The idea for my most recent published book came back in the days when I had a 'proper job' and worked in an office central to the Ripper murder sites. Going to visit them, and reading all the books on the case was a better way of spending a lunchtime than going to the pub and talking about football :)
The idea for the book I'm working on now came from a bizarre idea I had, that I found quite fascinating - but which has taken me several years to come up with an idea that would make it work. The rest is secret, so ...shsshhh.
