Gayle Carline John Carter and Dejah Thoris, from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars series. I read the series when I was in my impressionable 20s, and their romance really stuck with me.
Gayle Carline I don't think I get writer's block. I sometimes get writer's distraction. If I'm having a problem with my focus, I read my latest work from page 1. By the time I get to the end, I know where the story is going.
Gayle Carline I love my characters, getting to know them and telling their stories.
Gayle Carline My advice for aspiring writers is to do two things: 1. Read. 2. Write. If you don't read, you will not know what exists out there in your genre. You won't know what clichés to avoid, what character arc works and what doesn't. And while you're reading, write every day. Even if you're not writing your book, write SOMETHING. You need to exercise those muscles. They say it takes 10,000 hours of doing something to become proficient in it. That's a lot of words to put together.
Gayle Carline I'm currently working on two separate novels. One is the fourth book in my Peri Minneopa Mystery Series. I'm really excited about the storyline in this one. The other book is a pirate fantasy that is turning out to be so wild and sexy, I'll probably have to publish it under a pen name.

BTW, I don't recommend writing two books at the same time, but sometimes you get two ideas at the same time and you don't want to lose the momentum on either one.
Gayle Carline I write for a living, so I don't exactly wait for my muse to visit. In a way, the act of writing inspires me to write more. Once I start putting words on the page, I get obsessed with putting even more words together!
Gayle Carline My most recent book, MURDER ON THE HOOF, is set at a horse show. I got the idea as I was walking up the barn aisle at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. There was a large pile of used stall bedding (shavings) at the end of the aisle, and I thought, "What if there was a pair of cowboy boots sticking out from under that pile... and the boots had feet in them?"
