Hanging out with my characters, once I know them really well, and seeing what they'll do in the situations into which I place them, then seeing the world through their eyes. And I LOVE words. There's an amazing Mark Twain quote, "The difference between the perfect word and the almost perfect word is like the difference between lightning and a lightning bug." Nothing's better than when you make lightning strike!

I was walking down Lower Broadway in NYC many years ago when a sudden downpour sent me dashing for cover into SHAKESPEARE & CO, a truly awesome bookstore. Drawn to the history section, I "happened" upon a book of historical essays, one of which concerned the shocking, factual events upon which CERTAINTY is based. Coincidence? I don't believe in those!
