Dear Anne, I live in Norway and am now listening to "Meet Me..." for the 5th time on BBC 4. Thank you! A friend from student days and I began to correspond when our 50th reunion was cancelled on the eve of the Covid lockdown. Writing and reading with love and honesty helps us to cope with our chronically ill spouses and our own aging. Have you also experienced this closeness through correspondence? Ros
Anne Youngson Dear Ros, I haven't written as many letters as I should have done, but for moments when I need to make sure I am saying what is right, and honest, in difficult situations, I always write a letter. They are thoughtful ways of telling other people what you think and how you are feeling. I hope it has helped for you.

Anne Youngson I am always writing. I have found it a good way to fill all the empty space in this last year, when we weren't able to be sociable and travel, and I am half way through the third book. And as soon as I have finished that, I will be looking round for the next idea to start number four.

I just finished Meet Me at the Museum... I have never felt compelled to write an author to thank them for their work. Thank you for creating my own discovery of the Tollund Man. The vulnerability of both characters was beautifully developed. I appreciated the necessary toughness and the tenderness expressed with such honesty. I cannot get these characters out of my mind, nor do I want them leave. My thanks, Angie?
Anne Youngson Thank you, Angie. I enjoyed living with them all the time I was writing, and missed them when I had finished. But I hope I left them in a better place than they were at the beginning.

I just finished reading THE NARROWBOAT SUMMER and enjoyed it every bit as much as I did your first novel. I like how you leave a lot to the reader's imagination as to how they both end. I would like to know if you have spent time on a canal boat like the ones described? It sounds like a charming way to live and I regret that I never took a vacation on one.
Anne Youngson Thank you for the question, Judy. I have spent several holidays on canal boats, just like the one I describe in the book. But my main source of information and inspiration was my sister, who set off to live on one for several years after she and her husband retired. They cruised round the whole canal network and only went back to living in a house when their health wasn't good enough to carry on. It was hard, some of the time, but on the whole a peaceful, gentle way to live. We could all do with some peace and gentleness in these difficult times.

I can relate to being in a relationship/marriage that you find yourself in and its not the life you wanted or hoped would have been, thank you for this
Anne Youngson I'm pleased you loved the book. What happens to the characters after the book ends - any book, not just this one - is up to the reader to decide. I am an optimist so I always expect a happy outcome. But also a realist, so I know it may not be possible.
