Pam Baddeley The last man on Earth was sitting in his house one night. There came a knock on the door.
Pam Baddeley Thanks for asking, Kaye.
The answer is - all over the place - one novel came from a dream, for example. Often, I have an idea about a character in a situation/scene and then have to write some pages to find out where it is going. Sometimes with short stories, I've entered a themed competition and found it a useful exercise to just daydream about the theme and try different thought experiments - and then something will gell. Or I get the beginning of something and have to start writing before things click into place. I may end up junking what I initially wrote, but by then I'm on the right track to continue. I'm quite instinctive with writing, and am a great believer in the power of the subconscious to come up with ideas and to resolve plot conundrums.
Pam Baddeley What I hope will be the rewrite of the book I am planning to self-publish, an epic fantasy novel.
