VS Grenier No author has all the answers. Just some authors get lucky and sometimes what works for one doesn't always work for another. Stay true to who you are and don't worry about anything else.
VS Grenier The best thing for me as a writer is watching the kids I talk to find enjoyment in not only reading, but writing as well. I share with them that I wasn't the best student in English or spelling, however, I didn't let this stop me from doing what I love. Inspiring kids to reach for their dreams is the best thing I can do as an author and reminding them to always have fun while doing it.
VS Grenier Before I sit down to work on a manuscript, I usually do a writing prompt or some type of writing exercise to clear my thoughts. I also will read what I already have written or go for a walk. It just depends on why I'm getting writers block. An author I know well once told me the best way to keep writer's block at bay is to stop writing when you are on a roll that way when you come back to it, you're ready with fresh ideas and in a spot your excited to start working on again.
VS Grenier I am currently working on three picture book's with my 10-year-old daughter, Ashley. She came up with the story line and I'm working has her co-author to format them into picture book manuscripts. All I can tell you is her character lives in the ocean.

I am also working on a YA novel inspired by true events from my teen years. This is another story that is very close to my heart and one that opens a lot of raw emotion and old memories.
VS Grenier Most of my inspiration comes from either my own life, my kids or just things happening in the world around me. I like to pull from real life when I write. Most my books and short stories have bits and pieces from real events in them.
VS Grenier My recent picture book, "Whistle Beans" was inspired by a family friend from my childhood. Charlie Baker had this amazing whistle and I wanted to whistle like he did. One night his family had us over for dinner and he told me the secret of a good whistle....Whistle Beans! I can't tell you what a Whistle Bean is, but what I can tell you is this...you've seen them before and just never knew it.

This picture book is very close to my heart because if it wasn't for Charlie telling me about Whistle Beans, I wouldn't have been able to share it with all my readers.

Special Note: In the dedication of the book there is a picture of Charlie Baker and me fishing.
