Lisa Patton Hey Judi,

Sadly, I won't be in Michigan. At least not in the first part of the tour. Maybe, if RUSH sells more than ten copies ;-) I'll get a chance to come after the first of the year. For now my tour is concentrated in the South. If you'll please send me a FB friend request I can let you know if and when I come to Grand Rapids. I hear Michigan is glorious..in the summer ;-) LOL!! My skin is so southern! xoxo
Lisa Patton Hi Beth,

I'm happy you've written to me! I love having the chance to speak with readers, especially ones from Mississippi! I was a sorority girl at Alabama but felt Ole Miss was a better, more colorful choice for the setting...Oxford, The Grove, the fans, the campus itself. Plus I'm from Memphis and have spent countless hours in Mississippi. I feel like i'm part Mississippian/part Tennessean. I've written a long author's note that tells my inspiration for writing the story but to give you a hint, I'm hoping RUSH will be an eyeopener. I deeply loved my sorority and went years without ever considering the lives of the people who work in the houses. There is an old saying, "The shortest distance between the human heart and truth is story." I'm hoping RUSH might be a catalyst for change! Thank you for writing and reading, Beth. I so hope you love the book. xo Lisa
Lisa Patton Hi Judi!! You're so sweet! Thank you for taking the time to write to me. I think you're asking me if I have plans to do other books in the Dixie series. I never say never! But I'm so excited for you to read RUSH!! I really think you'll really enjoy it. I'm touring quite a bit this fall so please tell me where you live. Maybe I'll be in your town! xoxo Lisa
Lisa Patton Hi SE, Maybe sometime in the future - I never say never - but for now I wanted to write something new. RUSH, due out in August, has heart, humor and plenty of sass. I hope you enjoy it!
Lisa Patton Those rare moments when the perfect words mysteriously flow from a magical brook onto my computer screen and I explode from an intoxicating high that makes me reread the same passage over and over again. Few and far between but I suppose that's what keeps me going!
Lisa Patton I push through it. Instead of getting up from my computer and finding every excuse in the world to stop, I close my eyes and write whatever comes to mind, even if it's total crap! I know that the editing phase is what makes writing sparkle and shine, for me anyway, so I don't worry if the words I'm writing in my first draft don't have instant appeal.
Lisa Patton Never ever give up. It took me fourteen years, idea to publication, for my debut novel - WHISTLIN' DIXIE IN A NOR'EASTER - to find its spot on the bookstore shelf. There were times I never thought it would happen. I got enough rejections to cripple my heart for good, but I was determined. Keep on keepin' on even when you don't want to.
Lisa Patton A novel about teachers.
Lisa Patton Life inspires me. I want my readers to see themselves, even if it's only in a small way, on the pages of my books. I want them to take away something poignant that applies to their own lives. Giving my readers a smile or two, and hopefully even a laugh out loud moment, is something that I live for and cherish reading about in the emails I receive.
Lisa Patton I was in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama/Tennessee football game and also for the ribbon cutting of my new multi-million dollar sorority house. Greek life is much different than it was when I was in school in the late seventies. Rush is more exclusive, pledge classes have grown exponentially, and it's harder to get a bid. In addition, things haven't changed much with regard to the staff at the Houses. They work tirelessly for little recognition and it's hard to earn a living wage. I wanted to write a story that presented the possibility of change.
