Hi Sharon—Yes. the Vampire FBI novella is definitely coming out…probably late Summer now. It’s my fault. I’ve had a few health challenges this year. Everything seemed to happen at once. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad. I just know it played havoc with my life. The novella really is close to final completion, though.
As for the website, we had to change the format because the publisher wasn’t supporting the original anymore. And then I found the new format
unwieldy. So back to my brilliant tech master. I’m restocking the new format now, nearly there with the help of my lovely assistant. With a bit of crisis-free luck, the website should relaunch just in time for my new FBI vamp to hit the scene.
Thank you for hanging in there and for loving all my vampires.

Hi all! I’m back to work after a few months of difficult health issues. First priority is catching up with my writing, beginning with the ViA novella which will introduce my Vampire FBI agent who has an informal specialty in serial killers. His partner for this investigation is an intriguingly beautiful MD/PhD who also conducts research in serials using her considerable academic credentials to open otherwise closed doors.
Unfortunately, the holiday season is upon us, which is the worst time to release a non-holiday themed novel, especially romance. So the novella will release in February, the perfect season for a sexy enemy-to-friends romance, which is my favorite kind.
Once I complete the novella, I’ll begin writing the next book in the Vampires in America series, which will return to the eight North American vampire lords and the unflinching lieutenants whose power and loyalty are a constant source of strength as they rule over the continent.

I'd love to write a third Shifter Planet. Unfortunately, the publisher is no longer interested in that genre of romance, which means they're not planning to release any subsequent stories. They, of course, own the publishing rights to the existing books, as well as any sequel. Once I catch up with my many overdue obligations, I'm going to explore getting my rights back, so that I can go ahead with a third SP. Fingers crossed that I can make it happen.

My fault. I’ve been dealing with some persistent health issues. Which have consumed my time and energy. I’m slowly catching up with all I’ve missed.
Release of my next story, which is a novella to introduce a new main character. Release date is February 2024. The novella will intro my FBI vampire and his soon to be love interest who’s a human psychiatrist whose specialty is also serial killers. They meet over a body and their story begins.

Yes! I’ve been dealing with some health issues that have slowed my writing schedule, but YES! I’m now finishing up a novella that will probably release in early fall. It introduces my new FBI vampire character who will be featured in a limited series. And then I’ll be moving on to the next VIA book, which will move back to North America and feature the many gorgeous lieutenants of the vampire lords.
Sorry again to be running late, but I’m definitely trying to catch up!

This answer contains spoilers…
(view spoiler)[Thanks for engaging in a buddy read. As a fervent reader I ‘ve always loved those. I know the answers to your questions, so I’ll do that. But there are a couple that have direct references in the book which I’ll need to ferret out. But not until I finish the novella my editor is patiently waiting for.
So, for now I’ll simply provide answers with the promise of more detail in the future,
1. Kayla’s dad didn’t want to be cured. He chose to live out the rest of his life naturally. I “think” this is referenced in the book, and that Xavier had previously shared blood with both her parents to extend their natural lives, but they’d decided to take no more (I’ll look that one up. Sometimes details are in the first draft, but get cut from the final. So I have memories of writing it.)
2. Layla’s parents are/were completely loyal and devoted to Xavier. They’d have no qualms about their mating. One of her dad’s reasons for finally living out his natural life was that Layla had finally returned to inherit the Guard position.
3. And therefore the new Chief of Security is Layla. She already has a strong support staff because of the mercenary company she commands.
4. Daylight Security…I’ll have to check my notes, but it pretty much needs to be a vamp. One of Xavier’s trusted aides? I’m not sure I specified that one, but I’ll check.
5. Layla and Brian’s staff will slide in to their new position with Xavier under Layla’s command. Any who aren’t interested will continue with the existing company under someone else’s command—either one of the current people, or someone brought in as part of a merger
6. Yes! Chuy and Layla are together…totally unexpected, even to me. But I love it!💕

Thanks, Lola! I can always use your kind of enthusiasm when I'm writing. It reminds me why I'm working into the wee hours of the night. I'm currently writing an e-novella, which will probably be published in the Raphael & Cyn e-novella series. They'll both appear in the novella, but it's not primarily about them. The novella will introduce my new vampire, who's an FBI agent and a specialist in solving serial murders. His first full-length book will be out later this year, so this novella is to introduce him to readers and give an idea of how his vampire senses contribute to his skill in hunting killers.
I'll also be writing a new Vampires in America book which will be the first in a series to focus on the powerful lieutenants of my Vampires Lords. I'm not sure about the specific release dates. My publisher makes those decisions. :)

Hi Kankan...thank you for your patience. I'm currently finishing the final revisions on Antonio. The cover is done--he's so pretty--and as soon as I turn in this revision, the release date will be set. So, it's all on me. I've been in Iceland for the past two weeks, but I managed to get some work in between the various hikes and bus rides. I hate buses, by the way. But back to the point, I expect my publisher to release Antonio at the end of August/first week of September since everything is set to go.
I also hope to share the cover with you all this week. I'm just waiting for the final final to reach my inbox. I'll also have a snippet and/or excerpt to share when that happens.
And once that's done, I'll begin work on a new Raphael & Cyn novella, which will be centered around Halloween and will introduce my new Vampire FBI agent who will lead my next limited series.
And now...back to work.
xoxo

Oh, no. In this case, it really is the pandemic's fault. Everything got bogged down and shoved back because of the lockdown, which had a serious impact on the publishing industry. From troubled authors (yours truly) to paper supplies and unreachable vendors, it was bad.
I'll be sending out a newsletter this week, confirming that I'm busy writing and very nearly finished with Antonio's book (#15 ViA/ViE) My publisher is waiting eagerly to get their hands on it, so I would expect it to come out as soon as they can reasonably manage...certainly before the fall and probably sometime in early-ish summer. (fingers crossed)
I apologize for going silent. I was dealing with some serious health issues, but that's all behind me now. I've added a few doctors and other health professionals to my readers, though, so that's a good thing, right?
Thank you for asking a question that my readers are all probably wondering about. Again, my apologies, and thank you for sticking with me.
Stay safe out there.

Hi Jaycee,
I actually did address that early on, but I'll have to do some searching to figure out exactly where. It might have been a Vignette or Novella, rather than a book. I know it was Raphael speaking, though. So probably to Cyn. But I'll have to do a deep dive to figure out exactly where/when that scene/discussion first occurred. Yikes.
In the meantime, however, to answer your question, here's why.
Back in the day, powerful vampires fought a lot of wars--against each other, in defense against humans, and especially in the vampire/sorcerer wars (which I refer to in Nicodemus, but were also mentioned by Raphael in connection with Nick's hunt for the Amber Manacles, and somewhere earlier, too. Hence the deep dive to find it!)
Anyway, powerful vampires needed warriors to fight these battles and to defend them against attack by other vamps or humans. Since this was back in the day, when women generally weren't considered battle-worthy, vampire masters wanted to turn MEN who could fight to populate their armies. And since vampires live a very long time, the vampire population is still mostly male. Not to mention, the older vampire master who stick with the old ways.
That's changing somewhat with Sophia as Lord of the Canadian Territories, and with most of the North American vampire lords including female vamps among the highest ranks of their fighters. Rajmund's lieutenant is female (Emelie,) and Elke is not only one of the highest-ranked among Raphael's guards, she's also the vampire he trusts most to defend Cyn.
So, that's why. And I'll keep searching my files to figure out when I first mentioned that discussion. As soon as I find it, I'll post it here.
Thanks for writing, Jaycee. And for forcing me to keep better notes. lol

Absolutely! I love the relationship between Raphael and Cyn, and love writing about them, too. More than any other character, Raphael was modeled on my late husband, so writing him is both easy and wonderful.
Thank you for taking the time to let me know you love them.

Hi Elise,
I don't have any fixed end for the series, although I do know how it ends. My publisher continues to want more books, and my current contract runs about three more years. I'll keep writing as long as my publisher and readers keep wanting more books.
I can tell you that Raphael has a strong supporting role in Nick's story, and I also expect to write a new Cyn & Raphael e-novella to introduce my new vampire series, which I'll start writing next fall.
Thank you for asking, and thank you especially for loving Raphael. I love him, too.

Hi!! Originally the book was going to be pushed into October. COVID has wreaked havoc with release schedules.
BUT...my publisher emailed me on Monday (!!) to tell me the book was releasing on September 30. Surprise! Fortunately, it's all done and ready to go. I expect to have the final cover this week or very early next. And we should see the pre-order up next week. Yay!
Thank you for writing, and thank you especially for loving my Vampires.

Hi Kankan,
XAVIER (Vampires in Europe, VIA #14) will release in September 2020. Next up will be NICK (or Nicodemus?) which is the final Stone Warriors volume. He'll release in January 2021. I'm just about to turn in XAVIER's story, then I'll take a short break to do some projects around the house and clear my brain. And THEN, I'll start writing NICK.
btw You maybe already know about it, but just in case, I'm doing a weekly Amazon gift card giveaway for the duration of this lockdown. Something to help keep spirits up while we protect ourselves and others. You can find the details on my latest blog...www.dbreynolds.com

I think about Mirabelle and her sister a lot, and am still trying to figure out a way to provide a meaningful update. I know what's going on with them (in my head,) but I'd love to let my readers know, too. I still think a Vignette would work best. It's just a matter of finding time to write it, and then fitting it into the timeline. But since I've cancelled all my travels for 2020, this might be the year I have time to write something. Once XAVIER and NICK (NICODEMUS?) are finished, of course.
