The one I've just started work on, I just had this song come into my head - 'Everything About You' by Ugly Kid Joe.
It's a terrible song, but it reminded me of this friend at school, Jane, who loved that song and I had this really clear memory of us standing outside of a party while it was playing and me mocking her for liking this awful song.
Jane died a couple of years ago. I hadn't seen her in a long time - we were mates at school, but not really close - and it occurred to me that I might be the only person who remembers that she liked that dumb song.
So, I don't want to say too much about the next book, but that's kind the initial idea it will grow from - that when we die, there'll be some tiny inane part of us living on in the heads of hundreds of other people. It won't be the deep and meaningful stuff that those close to us will carry close to our hearts, it will be all the other daft stuff that made up a small piece of our lives.

A couple of things - I'm in the very early stages of working on my first collaborative film script, in partnership with a director.
I also just had an idea for a new book, but it's so early I don't want to shine too much light on it right now and spoil it! I'll keep you posted if it proves to have legs.
