Bill Adler Jr. We are accepting submissions for the all-horror edition of The Binge-Watching Cure, www.bingewatchigcure.com.

We're still swamped with stories for the first edition and because of that we haven't created a separate page for the horror edition yet, but that will come soon. The same general rules apply to the horror edition.

Bill Adler Jr. Lisa,

Previously published stories are fine for The Binge-Watching Cure. If you have any other questions, ask away. (There's more at www.bingewatchingcure.com.)

P.S. Outwitting Squirrels was a blast to write.
Bill Adler Jr. Much to my surprise, and my publisher's surprise, my book Outwitting Squirrels became a huge hit. (I know it was a surprise to the publisher because I only received an $800 advance. That’s $400 up front, and $400 upon publication.) Outwitting Squirrels has sold hundreds of thousands of copies.

Which is good. But that also could have send me down the path of becoming a one note writer. You know, Mr. Squirrel. They guy who's written a dozen books just on squirrels and who's on TV anytime they need a squirrel expert. That could have been me. “Oh, you’re a writer, how interesting!” Then after I tell the person at the party what I write about: “I think I’ll freshen my drink.”

Instead, I'm intellectually fidgety. I'm interested in many things, and that list keeps growing and changing. I get inspired by what I see around me, and I try to look at what I see sideways, because that’s how my brain fits in my skull: sideways. After I had kids I came up with an idea for a business book called How to Negotiate Like a Child: Unleash the Little Monster Within to Get Everything You Want. Rather than inspiring me to write a book about parenting, they gave me the idea of porting their rather excellent negotiating skills to the adult world.
Bill Adler Jr. Shh. Writer at work. Novel in progress.
Bill Adler Jr. I like coffee: I can work in coffee shops.
I like gadgets: I have an excuse to buy shiny laptops and fancy phones (for note taking, of course!)
I like to travel: Nothing is as inspiring for writing as newness.
I like people: (Though all resemblance in my books to people, living or dead, is just a coincidence. Right?)
I like to read: In what other profession can you say that you're reading a novel on the beach for work?
Bill Adler Jr. Write about anything and everything, and for anyone. It doesn't matter what -- just write.

The first place that ever published me was American Drycleaner magazine, a much overlooked monthly. I was a young, unpublished, writer, desperate for credits. In my old neighborhood there were two drycleaners, and I wondered how, if at all, they competed against each other. I pitched that idea to American Drycleaner and was on my way to being a published author.
Bill Adler Jr. When I have writer's block (I'm sleepy, distracted, tired, not in the mood to write, bored), I write something else. For example, when I get stuck in the middle of writing a book, I write a short story instead. Writing on a completely different subject --and there's always something else to write about-- unblocks me.
