Patrick Kendrick A young, aspiring actress walks into the audition room, her planned scene practiced to perfection. A grotesque, unshaven man sits in the shadowed corner of the room and purrs an introduction, "Hello, I'm Mr. Weinstein."
Patrick Kendrick Cimmeria, where Robert E. Howard's Conan, the barbarian lived. I would fight, kill monsters, plunder and chase the lust filled wenches.
Patrick Kendrick By couples, I assume you mean romantic in nature. If so, it's hard to beat Dashiell Hammet's Nick and Nora Charles. Love their fast, witty dialogue. If we're talking pals who solve crimes, my favorites are McGee and Meyer from the wonderful John D. MacDonald Travis McGee "color" novels.

Thanks for the great question-email me an address through my website: www.talesofpatrickkendrick.com and I'll send you a signed copy of "Acoustic Shadows," Featuring my own enduring couple of Justin Thiery and Millie Adkins in a non stop action thriller!
Patrick Kendrick Not to be too glib but I deal with it by writing! Not every day will be brilliant but you eventually break through if you keep at it. If you keep waiting for that inspirational day, you may lose years of time to write.
Patrick Kendrick Well, you don't have to watch a clock or deal with problem co-workers BUT it is hard work-don't fool yourself that it isn't. You still have to work with editors, critics, bookstores and marketing-which ends up taking as much time as your writing. Some of these experiences are exciting and some are just plain work. It is a lonely passion but it is also a most fulfilling one.
Patrick Kendrick Don't over think your plot. Decide on which genre you'd like to try-if you don't know or you can't describe your work as a genre, you will have a hard time explaining your story to a publisher. I often hear new writers talk about their "unique idea," to mix a romance/sci-fi/vampire/coming of age/apocalyptic adventure- and I have to say, it won't work. You have to be able to simplify what you're writing so that you know, yourself, what it is you're trying to convey. Focus on building unique character in a time honored genre that has followers and narrow your focus.
Patrick Kendrick I am working on a sequel to Acoustic Shadows as well as my first horror story. My first young adult/sci fi book will be out this year, too.
Patrick Kendrick I am often inspired by watching the news. The truth is always more disturbing than anything I can come up with.
Patrick Kendrick Acoustic Shadows begins with a school shooting in a rural town in Florida. The idea came to me as I watched the horror of the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown Connecticut. As the case unfolded, I began to wonder what might happen if one of the teachers had a gun and defended the school. That led me to the questions: why would she have a gun? Could she carry a gun in a Federal "Gun Free Zone." Would the community side with her or go against her? What other secrets would this teacher have?
