Urenna Sander I am not interested in horror or fantasy.
Urenna Sander The Stories of John Cheever; A Personal Odyssey, by Thomas Sowell; Collected Short Stories, by V.S. Naipaul; Book of The Little Axe, by Lauren Francis Sharma; Range, by David Epstein; The Order, by Daniel Silver; Caste, by Isabel Wilkerson
Urenna Sander I have a vivid imagination. I read, research and cull information from my own experiences.
Urenna Sander Music inspires me; sometimes it’s a word, phrase or poem. I suggest you join the Poetry Foundation. They will send you a poem a day. Some of the poetry is very inspirational.
Urenna Sander I'm working on two books; one is on Connie Moreno, a character from True Season of Love and the other is still a work in progress.
Urenna Sander I’ve considered myself a ‘seat-of-your-pants’ writer. But I’ve learned this is a haphazard way of writing for me. I suggest you plan and prepare. First, have an idea, and plan your plot, subplots, theme, genre, characters, character viewpoint, POV (tense), conflict and chapter outlines. Do your research, which will involve your main character’s occupation, hobbies, their country of origin, etc. Write everyday. Attend writing classes online or at a nearby institution, join writing groups. Read books on honing your craft.
Your ethics are important. Don't let an editor suggest you write spicier love scenes if you feel uncomfortable. Don't give up and never stop writing. We are not perfect; it might take years to be a bestseller.
Make sure you have time for yourself. Let friends and family know you need time to contemplate, meditate and write.
In summary, work hard to develop yourself and you'll acquire greater confidence in yourself.
Urenna Sander Contentment. It’s alone time, but a good feeling when you write. It’s just you and your characters. I enjoy creating interesting characters, feeling and conveying their deepest emotions. I’m learning to make them four-dimensional, more believable and interesting with their aspirations, flaws, and secrets. It’s a pleasure to hear people discuss your characters and tell you how much they liked your book.
Urenna Sander Eat ice cream (smile), take a walk, read or write a review, listen to your favorite CDs. Write your characters’ resumés and bio. If you haven’t already done so, add their goals, skills, traits, self-perception, etc. Read your story aloud, edit, and kill off the annoying adverbs and adjectives. I have read that too many can weaken your narrative. Do your research by purchasing books and via the library or on Google.
