Leanne Prain A new non-fiction book idea that I don't feel ready to talk about yet. It is like making soup that needs to simmer awhile before anyone else can taste it.
Leanne Prain I don't wait for inspiration to write - writing is a habit to me, just like brushing your teeth or making the bed or exercising. I can't wait to do it. I get cranky and feel out of sorts when I'm not writing on a regular basis. I get inspired through the process of writing. Writing allows me to connect ideas together. It helps me articulate thoughts that I didn't know I had. It helps me make sense of the world.

The best way for me to get inspired is to brew a cup of tea, roll up to my desk, ignore my text messages and email, and just write.
Leanne Prain I find the best way to deal with writer's block is just to sit down and write. I set the kitchen timer and write for twenty minutes. Twenty minutes is a short enough time to focus my attention on a few paragraphs. This may not result in excellent writing, I find that it always gets me back on track and thinking of what else I want to write about or how I might revise the writing that is not working for me. And if twenty minutes of writing doesn't help, I suggest taking a nap.
