When my kids were teenagers they introduced me to the Vocaloid software and singer Hatsune Miku, and I was fascinated! As a media researcher, I started learning more about Vocaloid, which led me to the entire history of talking machines. Since Siri, Cortana, and Alexa were released soon after that, I thought that other people might be interested in how these digital voice assistants were invented, and so I started writing this book. It took a while, but I hope folks enjoy it!
