I'm so used to bestowing rampant unsolicited advice on all my friends and loved ones that it's going to take a minute to process this question.

OK so here's my advice.
1. Write about something you care about.
2. Write a lot.
3. Write well.
I can't think of anything more important.

I spent much of my adult life feeling like a misfit for my love of being alone and my hatred of group work and my utter delight in cancelled plans. Over time I discovered the answer: weirdness, thy name is introversion.
When I started my blog, Louder Minds, and shared my experiences and insights, I was overwhelmed by the hundreds of comments and quick growth of the community. People found freedom, confidence, and joy in understanding introversion - and embracing it.
So I took the best material and fashioned it into a funny and helpful (I hope!) introvert survival guide.

Hmmm you know what? I wish I had a better answer but the truth is I generally start writing anything and usually (but not always) get inspired along the way. If there's a muse s/he is essentially a bossy PA who bullies me into sitting at my desk and yells if I am caught 'doing research', which I staunchly maintain can be accomplished by binge-watching my stories.

Two books, both in a comedic how-to style that draws on my Bachelor of Psychology, countless wine-fuelled discussions with friends -- I mean focus groups, and lots of quality overthinking.
One is about being a happy introvert, the other about finding your own style and confidence. They're both books I desperately want to read, so I'm writing them.

As an introvert I love going deep, talking about things that matter to me, connecting in a way that feels meaningful. Being a writer lets me explore and communicate about the things I care about and in a way that feels organic.
Also, I get to sit at my desk and drink a lot of coffee and listen to the same music I've been listening to for 30 years, and call it 'work'. What could be better than that?

Are you referring to writer's block of chocolate? If so, then I make sure to 'splurge strategically' (I only have the chocolate I love best, I leave all other chocolate, and I savour the pleasure!).
But if you're referring to the creative well being dry, then I try to fill up my well with reading, talking with friends, watching good TV shows, researching interesting ideas in the library, letting my brain play. Eventually I find a thread I want to pull at, and voila!
