Rebekah Shafer Hi Kevin,
I'm exploring the urban mystery genre myself, so my recommendation pool is kind of shallow. I grew up on the classic old style mysteries by Agatha Christie, or series like The Cat Who books, and I've always struggled to find a more modern approach I still enjoyed. Preston and Child bring in the borderline supernatural flair that I love, and so far the Deaver books have been fascinating because of their psychological angles. I'd say think about what you like in other books and genres (pace, intensity, any topics you like to avoid) and then start trying mysteries that look interesting. I wish you luck finding new favorites!
Rebekah Shafer For me, the best thing about being a writer is also the worst thing, and it's the continual starscape of stories. There are always stories spilling out into my head. It's magical, it's terrifying, and it really keeps life interesting.

It's almost like swimming in a pool of ideas. Ideas that are colorful and fascinating but sometimes hard to work with and a pain to refine. But the process is worthwhile. I mean, really, I get to take life and explain it in unusual ways. How cool is that?
Rebekah Shafer I am currently writing the next Surfaeillance Book (The Mirror Knife), polishing up some short stories, and working on a full length novel with a Persian/Arabian Nights flavor—lots of court intrigue, action, and djinn magic.
