A Noir book. I've got the short story pre-quel done--now I just have to decide if I want to write a full book in this genre, which I've always loved.

The English language can be a beautiful thing: learn to manage it. It's OK to have all those exceptions to the rules, but not because you simply don't KNOW the rules. Learn your craft, and the best two ways to do that are 1) write and let others give you feedback and 2) read. There's some fabulous on-line courses, blogs, organizations and podcasts about the craft of writing---use them. It's not enough to merely want to write your story; you have to know how. And after you get the basics...then you can develop your own voice, your own style, your own tempo, your own worlds. I've read books by people who didn't get those basics down; it wasn't pretty.

The money, the awards, the island vacations! OH...best thing about "writing"? Well, not the three things I just listed! LOL...I'll tell you what it is for me, and sometimes, it doesn't feel like much to go on, but it's this: I write because I would like to think I might make make one small difference in someone's life same as was made in mine by authors I read when I was younger, many of whom were long dead by the time I read them. Books gave me hope and purpose and a secret hideaway where only my response mattered. Powerful stuff when you're a young reader. And I still read, tons of books.

I don't exactly have writer's block---I have MITTDO, more important things to do! But you have to understand, that's just what I tell myself to avoid sitting down and getting on with the writing! Seriously, if I am blocked, it's not a lack of ideas, it's a lack of clarity. I've got myself in a corner I can't seem to write my way out of, or I took off on a tangent that seemed so FABULOUS at the time of doing it, but which completely screws up my story! LOL...but writer's bloc? Nahhhh.....;-)
