Hi Sam, you are not a pain in the butt! Actually, I'm delighted by your interest. Do you have Return to Alpha now? My publicist said she sent it to you hoping, of course, for an eventual review. Reviews so far have been very strong so I'm sure you'll enjoy the novel.

Sam, thought I answered this for you via e-mail.
Anyway, that version of the story has been pulled as the story has been greatly revised with a tnew title, "Hammerhead." Will send you a copy when it's ready. Did we send you a copy of Return to Alpha? Thought you deserved a free novel for your question--

A Horror Story in Two Sentences
It’s Nov. 9, 2016. While half the U.S. is staring at their TV screens in shocked disbelief, another half is leering, laughing, jeering and saying, “Welcome to your nightmare—the one you deserved all along!”

I have to admit, I'd like to go to the Beta-Earth I created in my Beta-Earth chronicles. What would I do? I admit, I would have to find out when I got there--an adventure wouldn' be predictable.

I don't know yet. I await new review assignments from BookPleasures.com while I plow through some titles I'm a little behind schedule on.

In a Kentucky graveyard, an ancestor of mine has two gravestones marking his burial with two different names. He fought in the Civil War and the marker purchased by the government gives his last name as Jordon. The one set up by his family says he was a Britton. Why this difference? When an how did a Jordon become a Britton? An unsolved family mystery . . .

These days, I’d pick Elisabeth and Henry McCord on TV’s Madame Secretary. They’re both smart, humane, moral, deep, and serve purposes greater than themselves. They are true partners so we don’t hear the usual narcisstic domestic squabbles of most TV couples.

The original idea came from the question--what would happen to an ordinary man pulled to an alternate earth where he's blinded and has no idea of anything he hears? A man who understands no one or anything he encounters? How can such a man take on the challenge of creating a new life under these conditions? That's just the beginning. To keep an epic going, there has to be struggle after struggle, pressure after pressure, conflict after conflict. I hope I met that challenge myself . . .

Very good question and I have no good answer. For example, I've been asked who my characters are based on. Well, they're based on no one--I feel they created themselves. I guess I have an overactive fantasy life--I'm inspired by stories that come out of nowhere and go places I didn't so much craft as accept.

Much to my surprise, I'm working on book six of the Beta-Earth Chronicles. At first, I thought there would be only four books. Out of nowhere, book five came to me and it's in production. I thought it was the end. Nope. I'm about 113 pages into book six. The end? Well, never say never, as 007 once said.

Ouch, the hardest question of all! Well, to repeat what's been said time and time again, write, don't talk about writing. Turn off the TV, get off of Facebook, put the game box away. I hear more people talking about writing than those who actually do it. e

Communicating with readers! It's certainly not the payday! And the joy of creative discovery and following trails and meeting new characters I never expected.

Read and research. That gives me grist for the mill. Some research is "deliberate," that is, hunting for material I need. Some is "accidental," that is finding things I wasn't looking for, as in reading good articles in The Atlantic Monthly or wherever.
