David Burrows Be patient and do not force it. I spent months stuck on particular scenes but by being patient, when inspiration struck it was incredible. People ask -where do ideas come from. I think it's your subconscious and the deeper rooted the idea the stronger it is likely to be. Creativity cannot be rushed and if you do -- you run the risk of it being weak.
David Burrows Getting reviews is incredibly satisfying. However, few folk write a review so it can be a while between reviews. It's great when someone writes a review, enjoying some particular aspect. Occasionally a reader will comment on something you hadn't anticipated, perhaps reading something deeper into the tale.
David Burrows Write short stories to get a response and then use the best as a part of a novel. Do not rely on friends and family when seeking views on your short stories, publish on Wattpad and get real feedback.
David Burrows A children's bed time tale called Grump the Giant
David Burrows Having one scene in mind can inspire you to write. It generates its own questions. I mentioned a scene deep in the heart of a mountain, I wanted to know who the people were and why they were there. I had it in mind that souls were surrounding the people, shrieking into the shadows. What the heck was that about. When you put pen to paper you create characters that depend upon you and a unknown world opening up its secrets like a flower in bloom. You will be surprised what flows from the pen sometimes.
David Burrows Ideas for my book came from several places. Oddly it was one scene that stuck in my mind and even more bizarrely that created a book. Where the idea came from? From within me, somewhere. It was a scene in a cavern deep in the heart of a mountain. I remember going around some caves when I was aged about 7 and clearly that must have had an impact. I also liked the idea of guardian angels watching over us, but wanted to explore the darker side of that.
